IBADAN—FORMER Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Isaac Babatunde Delano, has advised the National Judicial Council  to dismiss corrupt and lazy judges in the system.

This, he said, weekend, in Ibadan, became expedient so that they would not infect other judges with their corrupt tendencies.

With the upward review of salaries by the former President,  Chief Olusegun Obasanjo,  judges no longer have excuse to display corrupt tendencies.

On alleged late arrival of some judges in court, Justice Delano said it all depended on the Chief Judge of such a state.

He said: "If as a chief judge, you sit by 9 a.m. as directed by the constitution, other judges under you will find it difficult to do otherwise. When I was the Chief Judge in Ogun State, I always sat at 9 a.m, no judges under me would sit at 10 a.m or 11  a.m."

According to him, if any  judge gave an excuse  that he wrote judgment late in the night, he would tell him that notwithstanding, he must sit by 9 a.m.

He added that family background of new judges should be considered before their appointment.

" NJC must make sure they scrutinize anybody that they want to appoint as a judge properly, they must ensure that such a person comes from credible family."
