An Anglican clergyman, Rev. Authority Ajayi, has expressed concern over the incessant cases of marriage collapse in the society.
Ajayi, the Vicar/Archdeacon in-change of Saint Philip's Anglican Church , Ekiti West Diocese, Aramoko-Ekiti, expressed the feeling on Monday at an event to mark the 50th wedding anniversary of a community leader, Pa Adefioye Folayan and his wife, Madam Adenike Folayan.
He said the rate at which marriage contracts between couples were terminated over flimsy excuses, other than cases of adultery and criminal conduct , was a source of serious concern to the church.
He described a situation whereby "holy wedlock" that usually attracted people from far and near, who spent time, money and energy no longer survived the first five years.
The clergyman said it was disheartening to note that marriage which was supposed to be a "sacred institution", was not enduring the way God instituted it in the Holy Scriptures.
"To us in the service of God, the way young men and women jump in an out of Holy wedlock is not only regrettable but embarrassing," Ajayi said.
He warned that the trend must not be allowed to continue in order not to further impact negatively on moral values.
