PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan went tough Thursday. Twice, he vowed to deal with politicians who make "treasonable statements".
The State Security Services (SSS) also warned those beating war drums to stop doing so.
The warning followed the statement by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that "the national political leadership risks violent change, if it refuses to allow peaceful change".
Atiku spoke on Wednesday at a Stakeholders Forum organised by the Northern Political Leadership Forum (NPLF); Igbo Political Forum (IPF); Southsouth Unity Forum (SSUF) and Yoruba Redemption Group (YDG) in Abuja
Ex-military president Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, former National Security Adviser (NSA) Gen. Aliyu Gusau and former Senate President Ken Nnamani were among personalities at the event meant to drum up support for Atiku's bid for the PDP presidential ticket.
Jonathan said: "Sometimes, I frown at some people making statements, especially those of us who are politicians making statements challenging the sovereignty of this nation. Government will no longer take that kind of rubbish lightly."
