Title: Tinubu’s wife donates N100m to New Era Foundation [TheNation]

President of New Era Foundation, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, yesterday disclosed that she had donated the N100milion she raised during her 50th birthday to the organisation.

She enjoined well meaning individuals and corporate bodies to expand the scope of their social responsibilities to the poor, needy and indigent students in the interest of the society.

The former Lagos State First Lady spoke at the 'Re-union Luncheon of New Era Foundation and Council of One-Day Governors' at Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos.

At the event, the Ambassador of Finland to Nigeria, Anneh Vuorinen, delivered a lecture titled: 'Unfolding a future without limit'.

Lagos State Deputy Governor Princess Sarah Sosan, wife of Lagos State Governor, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola and retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice George Oguntade, praised Mrs. Tinubu for her vision, noting that the products of her initiative, the Spelling Bee Competition, is doing the nation proud in their intellectual pursuits in their respective tertiary institutions.

Mrs. Tinubu congratulated the past One-Day Governors, saying that their intellectual capacities during the competition were a predictor of their success in their higher institutions.

She explained that the N100m to the foundation would assist in the furtherance of its activities, urging men of good will to accord priority to investment in education.

"The youths are the joy of the nation. Investment in youth development should be a priority", Mrs. Tinubu said, thanking the numerous people and organisations that have supported the foundation.

Sosan lauded Mrs. Tinubu for taking up the role of moulding the lives of future leaders, stressing that she had made an impressive contribution to the success of the education sector in the state.

"She is a woman of honour who is concerned with the plight of the less privileged. New Era has developed the youths and added value to the lives of children in Lagos",she added. The deputy governor who also thanked the Government of Finland for supporting the foundation.

Sosan asked the past One-Day Governors to go back to their alma mater to give motivational talk to lift up the spirit of their juniors.

Oguntade said: "New Era is investing in the future. The future belongs to the youths. You should plan for your life and ensure that you have a better Nigeria.                                                   

'Nigeria is not living to expectation. It is a corrupt-ridden society. Therefore, wherever you go, you must strive to make a difference. As we congratulate you, you must make a vow to make Nigeria a better place."

At the event were Chief Molade Okoya-Thomas, Mrs. Joke Adefulire-Orelope,Mrs Abba Folawiyo, Chief Kessington Adebutu, Hon.  Afeez Ipesa-Balogun, Mr James Faleke and Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke.
