Palpable fear has gripped residents of Mushin area of Lagos State, following reports of possible attack on a popular motor park in the area by members of a warring faction of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW.

It was alleged   that members of this faction have been stock-piling arms and ammunition within  the area in a bid, to  forcefully  take over a motor park that was formerly under their control.

Sources told Saturday Vanguard that  members of the  faction, which is being led by one Joel  Ajiboye, were forced out of the park  at the start of violent clashes in Mushin by hoodlums from the notorious Akala  and its environs, leaving them with no other area to control.

Police sources at the Area D Command, who spoke with  Saturday Vanguard on the issue, said the Command is doing everything under its control to forestall any possible violent outbreak within the area.    A senior police officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity said they are currently  searching every part of the area for ammunition.

"We've gotten a tip-off from some members of the public over a possible attack at the Mushin-Obalande Motor Park along Luth Road, Mushin, by a faction of NURTW. But we have mobilised our men to prevent such from happening.  At the moment,  no one has been arrested and our men are combing the entire area in search of weapons."

Meanwhile, when Saturday Vanguard contacted the embattled  former chairman of the park,  Joel Ajiboye, he debunked claims that members of his faction were plotting  to carry out any  violent attack in Mushin, describing it as  a ploy to create confusion and fear in the area.
