A chieftain of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Oyo State, Oluokun Akintola, has escaped being killed by suspected gunmen.
Addressing reporters, the Oyo Central senatorial aspirant said about 15 assailants trailed him to his Bodija, Ibadan home around 9pm on Saturday.
He said he noticed two black sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and a car trailing him as he entered the main gate to the estate where he lives.
He said the suspected gun men followed him as he detoured to an adjoining street.
Akintola said he negotiated a bend with a speed SUVs could not match. After beating his pursuers, the former House of Representatives member said he ran into other members of the gang as he attempted to speed out of the only gate.
He said as he slowed down to alert the gate man to close the gate, four members of the gang pounced on him. But they did not realise that he just escaped from their colleagues in the SUVs.
