ENUGU—GOVERNORS of the South-East states, yesterday, set up a joint security committee headed by the General Officer Commanding 82 Division of Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major-General Olayinka Oshinowo, to recommend ways of tackling the rising problem of insecurity in the zone.

The committee, which membership was drawn from various security agencies, including the Army, Police and Air Force, is expected to submit its report to the Forum of South-East Governors within two weeks.

Chairman of the South-East Governors' Forum and Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, announced this after a joint meeting of the Forum and all the security councils of the South-East states at the Enugu State Governor's Lodge.

He said the meeting discussed common security operations and set up a committee headed by the GOC to come out with a plan on how the zone could deal with insecurity with a view to coming up with "what is required to make South-East a safe haven."

He said every form of criminality in the zone, especially kidnapping and armed robbery, which had become major security issues in the five South-Eastern states would be looked into by the committee
