PORT HARCOURT—GOVERNOR Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, has declared a no work, no pay policy against striking lecturers at Rivers State University of Science and Technology, RSUST, Port Harcourt.
The governor, yesterday, said the defiant lecturers under the branch chapter of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, were on off duty, halting academic activities in the institution since August 13, over their disapproval of the governor's reappointment of Prof. Barineme Fakae as Vice Chancellor.
The governor, who maintained that due process was followed contrary to the position of the aggrieved lecturers, said the Rivers State Government could no longer pay the striking lecturers while they remained off duty.
He said: "I have instructed the Commissioner for Finance to ensure that from now on, anyone involved in the strike gets appropriate deduction for any day he does not work based on the strike."
