Post by: Sunexx360 on Sep 23, 2012, 07:50 PM
Thirty two suspected members of the BokoHaram sect were yesterday apprehended by a combined team of the Military Joint Task Force (JTF) and the Police in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
The suspects, including children and women, were arrested after a six-hour 'house-to-house search' in the sect's main strongholds of Abasha, Pompomari, Pawari, Bundigari, Nainawa and Ajari wards of the metropolis.
Arms and ammunition and other materials — three General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), two rocket launchers, a tricycle, military jackets and police pullovers — were also recovered.
Addressing newsmen on the outcome of theoperations, spokesman of the security task force, Lt. Col Eli Lazarus, said "tremendous success" was recorded, as the JTF was able to arrest 32 suspected terrorists, including their wives and children, which the terroristsallegedly used as human shields to prevent arrest.
He said, prior to the joint operation, residents of Damaturu were advised to remain indoors and not to panic or flee the metropolis, because of ongoing operations against the Islamist armed sect members.
"The breakdown of arrests and recovery of arms and ammunition," Lt. Col Lazarus continued, "are three GPMG, two rocket launchers, three handheld walkie-talkies, an empty shelve of RPG, various vehicle number plates, military jackets and police pullovers, seven laptops.
"Other items recovered today from the terrorists' hideouts, are 29 GSM phones and a tricycle, allegedly used in the attacks and bombings of Damaturu and Potiskum, 100 kilometres west of the State capital."
Lazarus said the JTF was making stable progress in the search for peace in Damaturu and its environs.                                            Source:guardiannews
