Gunmen, on Monday morning in Benin City, killed the driver and abducted two children ofof a Benin City-based businessman, Juande Iyamu.
The driver of the businessman whose name was not immediately ascertained was reported to be taking the children of his principal to an undisclosed school when the gunmen struck.
It was gathered that the kidnap incident tookplace near Mr Iyamu's house at Iguosa, behind 7Up Bottling Plant between 7.30a.m. and 8.00a.m.
Some residents of the area who heard gunshots and came out to catch glimpses of what was happening were said to have retreated immediately to their houses on sighting the gunmen who purportedly operated in a brazen fashion.
However, some of the residents later rushed to the scene of the incident after the kidnappers had left to provide assistance to the shot driver who was already dead before they reached him.
Some of the residents said the driver was apparently arguing with the kidnappers, which might have prompted them to shoot him at close range which eventually resulted in his death.
A visibly distraught Mr Iyamu, owner of a sachet water firm known as Yawe, declined to speak with the press.
The Public Relations Officer of the Edo State police command, Anthony Airhuoyo, said he was yet to be briefed by the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ekiadolor on the development. Source:tribunenigeria
