The senate committee on Information has summoned the Ministers of Information and Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) Dora Akunyili and Adamu Ailero to explain how a plot of land belonging to Voice of Nigeria, (VON) was re-allocated to Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF).The committee headed by Ayogu Eze heard over the weekend how the plot of land opposite Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Centre, in the Abuja Business District was originally allocated to VON but was re-allocated to PTDF because the executive secretary of the Fund was a friend of the former FCT Minister Nasir El-Rufai.The committee also directed that the Executive Secretary of PTDF Muttaqha Rabe Darma should also appear to shed light on how the land was re-allocated to the Fund.Director General of VON Abubakar Jijiya had informed the committee that the location before it was re-allocated was meant for the proposed site of the broadcast station of the organization.Jijiya complained to the committee that since the land was forcefully taken away from VON, the radio station had been faced with the problem of where to site its broadcast station. The committee also directed that Akunyili and management of the Federal Capital Development Authority, (FCDA) should also appear before it over the abandonment of the building meant for the studio of Nigerian Television Authority, (NTA).The building which the committee complained was no longer fit for a modern studio would have to be used for other purposes, it was said that the FCDA would have to explain why the project was abandoned for so long after funds had been allocated for its completion.
