Title: FGEF’s Small-Scale Initiatives Programme for Africans
Post by: sparrow on Dec 30, 2010, 01:01 PM
The Small-Scale Initiatives Programme run by the French Global Environment Facility is designed to support civil society organisations in Africa which are actively working on biodiversity protection and climate change action.

The programme has been set up to help civil society organisations to:

    * undertake field projects in West and Central Africa, Madagascar and Mozambique,
    * strengthen their technical, training, management and project monitoring capacities,
    * strengthen a small-scale projects monitoring network in West and Central Africa,
    * strengthen their capacities for influencing environmental policy choices in the countries concerned,
    * share and disseminate their experiences and successes.

Following an initial phase during which 56 projects were funded from 2006 to 2008, with very positive results, the FGEF has decided to launch a second project phase from 2009 to 2011.

Two project competitions will be launched each year, with the best 10 to 15 projects selected each time.

The FGEF will contribute a maximum of 50.000 euros to each project.

FGEF financing will not exceed 50% of the total in cases where other international agencies or NGOs will be co-financing the project. In cases where only contributions from local populations, NGOs, authorities or financial partners are involved, the FGEF will fund up to 75% of the total.
Before applying for a grant from the FGEF, please read the project competition rules carefully. If you think your projects meets the criteria given, you may fill in and send your application.

The SSI programme is managed by the French IUCN Committee, in association with the IUCN programme for Central and West Africa.
