Job Description:
The Accounts Officer directs and organizes all general accounting activities, prepares accounting and financial reports and ensures that accurate accounting systems and record are kept.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Maintains the general ledger and all related accounts with properdocumentation and records of all company transactions; reviews entries to the general and subsidiary ledgers to assure accuracy and compliance with the company's and established accounting principles; controls all changes to chartof accounts. Responsible for monthly and year end closing of the general ledger including preparation of journal entries.
• Responsible for maintaining computerized accounting system, backup control, assisting other accounting staff with questions and printing of computer generated reports and statements.
• Administers preparation of interim, year-end and comparative financial reports; performs and provides analysis of current results to prior periods and/or budget. Prepares required government reports as directed by the CEO and responds to inquiries as necessary.
• Stays current with developments, practice trends and promulgations in the accounting profession; monitors accounting systems and recommends new or revised policies and procedures.
• Prepares monthly bank reconciliation for all accounts; verifies accuracy of bank statements and resolve questions or problems; maintains integrity of cash balances and cash flow systems.
• Responsible for review and preparation of payroll records and processing ofpayroll checks and reports by outside payroll service.
• Maintains fixed asset records and control; determines depreciation terms/ratesto apply to capitalized items; prepares property tax returns for review by CEO.
• Assists the CEO in coordination of year end audit and preparation of schedules and documents for independent auditors.
• Maintain other accounts and performs other accounting duties as required or as requested by the CEO.
Requirements The Ideal Candidate: • First degree minimum qualification • Should have completed the mandatory service year on or before December, 2011 • Must be female • A minimum of 2 years experience in an accounts related position • Must have understanding of key accounting and spreadsheet packages (Peachtree expertise is compulsory). • Strong understanding of new technologies and how they can be applied to accounting. • Creative and innovative. • Good attention to detail. • Team player – works to ensure team goals are met or exceeded. • Openly communicates to the team in an enthusiastic and motivated manner. • Positive 'can do' attitude. • Self-motivated • Excellent inter-personal skills • Good communicator – provides clear, concise written/verbal communications appropriate to the audience. • Results driven – strive to make a difference; enjoys a challenge and working under pressure to achieve the objective. • Should reside on the Lekki-Ajah axis Deadline: 3rd October, 2012.
