The Federal Government has accused some banks of frustrating the Universal Basic Education Commission projects by holding onto funds meant for the payment of contractors handling various almajiri schools. Minister of State for Education Nyesom Wike said in Abuja that the banks have withheld payments to contractors by refusing to honour the Advance Payment Guarantees issued for their confirmation ahead of payment.
APGs and banks are supposed to confirm level of work and release funds for ongoing projects on special schools for girls and 9 million almajiri schools around the country.
But the minister said the banks, instead of effecting confirmation, have "become impediments to the successful completion of the projects on time."
