Post by: Sunexx360 on Oct 01, 2012, 09:37 PM
President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday said the international headquarters of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) must be a home of dialogue, civility, inclusivity and progress.
Jonathan made this known in a good will message at the inauguration of the headquarters of the INC on the Sani Abacha Expressway in Yenagoa.
The president's message was read by Mr Oronto Douglas, the Special Adviser on Research, Documentation and Strategy.
He said the efforts at building strong and more united Nigeria needed the support of all constituent units, be they ethnic nationalities, states or local governments.
``I hold the view that every constituent unit within Nigeria, suffer from challenges and desires - the yearning for good infrastructure, affordable and available food, healthcare, quality education, and the sustenance of environmental harmony.
``Our aspirations for conducive and best governance for a greater Nigeria can best be achieved when we work together in dialogue,'' he said.
Jonathan said that the unity and fraternity, which were the hallmarks and foundation of the INC should be utilised with extreme responsibility and caution.
``we must constructively and robustly engage ourselves and others along practicable and peaceful modalities.
``Whatever misgivings, grievances we bear or corrections we seek should be presentedand pursued with a high sense of inclusivity.''
According to him, it must be in a manner that encourages appreciation and understanding of our positions and visions and not in a way that increases mutual suspicion.
He commended former governor of the state, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, for initiating the project as well as the past leaders of the INC, like Chief Joshua Fumudoh, Prof. Kimse Okoko and others.
Earlier, Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa unveiled the coat of arm of Ijaw and also hoisted its flag with the colours of blue, red and green dotted with stars.
Dignitaries at the occasion included, Gen Sani Abacha's son, Mohammed Abacha, former INC leaders, traditional rulers, youth leaders and others.
