CALABAR – BARELY seven days before the window of opportunity to appeal against International Court of Justice, IJC, judgment that ceded oil-rich Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon expires, Cakebird Development Cooperation has said that the refusal of the Nigerian authorities to appeal the ruling could lead to war.
Meanwhile, Bishop of Calabar Diocese, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Tunde Adeleye, has advised the Federal Government to hasten the appeal and not allow any part of the country to go to another country, warning that nobody was afraid of war.
Cakebird Development Cooperation hinged its concern on the fact that the Cameroonian authorities would have prepared against any form of perceived in Bakassi from Nigeria.
Chairman of Cakebird Development Cooperation, Dr. Chinedu Jideofo-Ogbuagu, who spoke in Calabar, Cross River State, yesterday, said the war might be sparked-off by aggrieved Nigerians, who might be attacked by the Cameroonian authorities, adding that the only way to avert such ugly occurrence was for the Federal Government to appeal against the judgment.
Jideofo-Ogbuagu lamented that it was unfortunate that while well meaning Nigerians were calling for the appeal against the judgment, President Goodluck Jonathan was succumbing to pressures from past leaders, who connived to sell the Peninsular.
He said: "Assisted by some foreign powers, Cameroon is waiting for action, whereas there are powers somewhere in the country campaigning that the wicked sale of Bakassi should be forgotten."
