OGUN State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has lamented the acute shortage of petroleum products being experienced in the south-western part of the country, which has resulted in economic losses to the region.
He called for concerted efforts among all stakeholders to end the of pipeline vandals, whose activities led to the inferno at Arepo and shut-down of Mosimi depot.
The governor spoke, on Wednesday, at the Governor's Office, Abeokuta, when he received the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Western zone, comprising Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Kwara and Kogi states, led by its chairman, Mr Olumide Ogunmade.
While noting that the security of the pipelines was the responsibility of the Federal Government, he said Ogun State would always do everything possible to ameliorate the suffering of its people "as there are no federal citizens in Nigeria."
Speaking earlier, Ogunmade, urged the government to intervene in fast tracking the repair of the pipeline.
He stressed that continued closure of Mosimi depot would not only result in job losses but hinder smooth supply of petroleum products to all the Western states, as Lagos alone could not service the entire region.
"We are already collaborating with the Federal Government on the security of pipelines across our state and to end the hardship being experienced by our people," he said.
He cautioned against indiscriminate parking of fuel tankers on the Lagos-Ibadan highway,"which results in traffic congestion and economic losses." tribunenigeria
