Police in Ondo State have arrested six suspected cultists in connection with the attack on Labour Party (LP) supporters at Akungba Akoko. A release from the state Commissioner of Police (CP), Danladi Mashebwala, stated that it was cultists who attacked the suppoters of LP at the rally.
Following the mayhem, Adeniyi Oyen was killed while two others were shot by suspected cult members, after a campaign rally of LP, which was held at Holy Trinity Primary School playing ground.
The victims were immediately rushed to Iwaro Oka General Hospital for treatment, where Adeniyi Oyen later died, while other victims were referred to Federal Medical Centre (FCM), Owo for further treatment. The police swung into action immediately and arrested six suspects in connection with the case.
The police boss said in the course of interrogation, the arrested suspects made useful statements, saying the case was still under investigation. The command, however, assured the public of adequate security of lives and property. The police also warned those with criminal tendency to cause mayhem in the state to desist or face the full wrath of law.
