The police in Adamawa State on Sunday said the closure of the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, which witnessed the killings of about 40 of its students last week, is impeding their investigation into the massacre.
This is coming as the command said it was seeking the cooperation of the polytechnic management to track down the student union leaders of the institution.
The state commissioner of police, Mr. Godfrey Okeke, who spoke to our correspondent on the development, said the closure of the polytechnic was frustrating their efforts to interrogate the student leaders.
He said, "We are making headway in our investigations, but the closure of the school has affected the progress of investigation; we need to interact with the student union leaders, but they have all left the campus.
So, we have sought the cooperation of the polytechnic so that we can reach the students; they (student union leaders) need to give us certain information that would assist our investigation."
He, therefore, solicited the assistance of the polytechnic management to reach out to the students.
Meanwhile, the families of the slain students have been visiting the General Hospital in thestate to collect the remains of their loved ones for burial.
The CP said a number of families collected the bodies of their wards after the post-mortem had been conducted.
Forty students of the polytechnic were last Monday killed by unknown gunmen.
While some commentators allegedly linked the killings to the activities of Boko Haram sect, others claimed it was not unconnected to the students elections which took place inthe school two days before the attacks. The Punch Newspaper
