FRANCE, which eliminated Nigeria at the quarter-final stage of the ongoing FIFA Women U-17 World Cup, Tuesday accounted for another African scalp when it beat Ghana 2-0 in the first semi-final of the championship.
The French girls scored in either side of the half time to berth in their first final, where they will meet either Korea DPR or Germany. But for Ghana, it was mixed feelings, as it came so close to making a historic run even longer. Ghana was spirited throughout, but was outclassed over 90 minutes.
There was a red card for the Maidens, as regular heroine Jane Ayieyam was sent off 52 minutes after a second caution. Before then, she had come closest to giving Ghana agoal, but missed narrowly.
The Ghanaian girls had gone into the tourney after extensive preparation around their country and a brief stopover abroad to fine tune. They got to Azerbaijan with a low profile, as Germany, China and Uruguay werein their Group D.
The France team are a very strong and disciplined side.
At least our own Girls tried. We were beaten on penalties and not with goals.France will win the trophy. That's my prediction
I pray France does not win o.
The way they sent my girls out is very painful.
Whoever they will meet should beat them
