EPIDEMIC looms in camps of flood displaced persons in Edo State unless they have improvement in sanitation and safe drinking water, chairman, Edo Hospital Management Board, Dr Nosa Ehigie, has observed.
Ehigie, who visited some of the camps, on Wednesday, with members of the board, said the sanitation situation in the camps was capable of generating more crises if there was no immediate intervention.
He ordered for the purchase of two water storage tanks for each of the camps, saying the displaced persons were currently getting water from sources that posed health challenges in the camps.
"I must not fail to express my concern towards the issue of poor sanitation and where these people get their drinking water.
"Look around the camps and you will see that the environment is not clean and this poses health problem for the displaced," Dr Ehigie said.
The chairman of Edo Hospitals Management Board, who called for further decongestion of the camps, commended the efforts of the doctors that had continually gone round the camps to monitor the conditions of the flood victims.
Ehigie assured of adequate supply of drugs to the camps as provided by the state government.
He praised efforts so far made by the local, state and federal governments, but Ehigie advised the three tiers of government not work at cross purpose on the flood matter.
