A member of Staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Sylvester Emefiele, who was said to have been abducted on his way to Abuja on September 23, 2012, has not been found.
His family members are however, accusing the NNPC of keeping silent on the matter three weeks after Emefiele was kidnapped.
Sylvester's cousin, Mr. George Idiaghe and wife, Ngozi, told our correspondent on Saturday, that they had reported the matter to the police after realising that they were "being deceived by the Chief Security Manager of the NNPC, Best Dulagha."
George said, "For three weeks, Dulagha kept giving us false hopes that they were on top of the situation. I later discovered that he had done nothing. I have since informed thepolice."
In the statement to the police, they gave a graphic picture of what happened after Emefiele's last conversation with his wife.
George said, "Emefiele, an official of the NNPC Transformation Office was called by hisboss on 21, September 2012 to report to hisoffice in Abuja on September 24. He could not get a flight and so decided to go to Abuja by road.
"On September 23, he boarded a bus by 7.34am at Abanje Transport Company, Ikorodu, Lagos, going to Abuja. He was communicating with his wife and other family members on the journey. His last message was at 8:37pm. He said he was at Gwagwalada and that when he got home in Abuja, he would call but there was no call from him."
Mrs. Emefiele said she kept calling him between 9.30pm and 9am the following day but that his phone kept ringing with no response.
"I went to the transport company and was told the bus he boarded did not get to Abuja. The bus stopped at Lokoja due to the flood and all passengers disembarked at Lokoja and looked for other means of transportation.
"I informed his office in Abuja and was told he had not reported for work. I also asked his neighbours in Abuja and was told he was not seen at his apartment.
"Later, we discovered through his banks that money was withdrawn from his accounts with his ATM cards in Gwagwalada on September 23 at 10.02pm and the following day around 7:00am. I informed hisoffice and was told that they had informed the State Security Services and police in Abuja. They said I should not bother becausetheir security is on top of it but they did not do anything."
When contacted, the Investigating Police Officer at Force Special Investigation Bureau, Abuja who simply identified himself as Operative Tom, said the NNPC security department had delayed by not making any report.
He said, "We are still on it; the NNPC people delayed the case. The security department ofthe NNPC delayed making a report to the police. It was just last Thursday that the casewas formally reported to us by the family."
When our correspondent called Dulagha on Saturday, he said, "Come to the office tomorrow if you want to talk about an update. I need to know you because this canbe a fictitious call."
Several calls made to the mobile phone of Police Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mbah, on Saturday were not successfulas his phone was switched off.
The Spokesperson of the SSS, Marilyn Ogar, said she was yet to be briefed about the matter.
