This is one promise that has been made again and again over the past years since the dawn of supersonic flights with several attempts either failing or not hitting the 60 min target. But today, reports state that it might be closer and it's likely to hit the target or even do better with special designs.

The fifth test out of nine planned launches for the Hifire vehicle, which is claimed could be a major step forward in the quest for hypersonic flight, roared into the clear blue skies above a military base deep within the Arctic Circle in Norway. As the sleek, rocket approached its target altitude of 350km (218 miles), it began to arc back to earth, gradually accelerating to so-called hypersonic speeds of up to Mach 8 – about 9,800km/h (6,100 mph).
Back in time the quest for the faster flgihts started on 14 October 1947 but it's until 1976 wthen the first ever supersonic passenger flight took off. Concorde began commercial flights then but only to close down 27 years later. However it recorded a flight time of 2 hours 52 minutes and 59 seconds from Newyork to London.
And so, we are eagerly waiting for the next attempt of 1 hour across the Atlantic.
