The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has disqualified Senegal from the 2013 African Nations Cup following the rioting which forced their qualifier against Ivory Coast to be abandoned.
Ivory Coast were leading Saturday's match 2-0 at the Stade Leopold Senghor and 6-2 on aggregate when the match was stopped in the 72nd minute after missiles, stones, bottles and firecrackers were thrown onto the pitch.
The CAF has now confirmed the result stands, meaning Ivory Coast qualify for January's tournament, and Senegal miss out.
CAF said in a statement: "CAF decided to officially confirm the result of the match as 2-0 in favour of Ivory Coast... and to consider Senegal the loser of the said match and eliminated from the competition without prejudice to any other sanctions that may be imposed by CAF disciplinary board.''
CAF rules state: "If the referee is forced to stop the match before the end of the regular time because of invasion of the field or aggression against the visiting team, the host team shall be considered loser and shall be eliminated from the competition, without prejudice to the sanctions existing in the regulations.'

It is pity that Senegal missed out. But, why couldn't the Senegalese fans condole themselves in an orderly manner. 17 minutes is a long time in football. They never could tell, anything could have happened in their favour.
