An impending food crisis in Lesotho was discussed during a meeting between that country's leaders and President Jacob Zuma on Thursday.
Prime Minister Motsoahae Thabane described the crisis and its potential humanitarian impact to Zuma, the international relations department said in a statement.
"President Zuma expressed South Africa's solidarity with the government and people of Lesotho in the face of the impending food challenges and affirmed South Africa's commitment to provide some humanitarian assistance," the statement read.
The South African government was considering the extent and type of help to be offered.
The two leaders agreed that Lesotho and South Africa should work more closely together, and that the next bilateral meeting should be held in early 2013. They intended working towards regional economic integration. - Sapa
