Big Boss To Re-Open Talks With Bayern Leverkusen Star
Super Eagles head coach, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi is looking towards the possibility of convincing Bayern Leverkusen defender Sidney Sam to play for Nigeria.Though Sam who can play in a variety of attacking roles has featured for the German U-20 side in the past he is still eligible to feature for Nigeria,his country of birth.
Keshi's predecessor, Samson Siasia established contact with the guy in his days as head coach of the side but couldn't get him to switch his allegiance to Nigeria.And now Keshi who will be making history as thefirst Nigerian coach to lead three different sides to the African Cup of Nations,is hoping to get the player on the plane to South Africa.
"Sam is Nigerian and is still eligible to play for the country of his birth,"Keshi opened upto Complete Sports Saturday few hours after his team bashed Liberia 6-1 in Calabar."He was injured before, but he is now fit and I am looking at the possibility of getting him to play for us[Nigeria] in South Africa.He is still in my plans. He specifically told me of his desire to play for the Super Eagles and I will open talks with him again.It feels great to know that he wants to play for Nigeria, that is the reward of our qualification for the Nations Cup," he said.
Aside Sam, Keshi is also planning to hand a call-up to former Flying Eagles star, Keneth omeruoh who plies his trade in Belgium with AOD deHaag.
Omeruoh had a wonderful outing with the Nigerian U-20 side at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia in 2011 and was signed by European Champions,Chelsea, last summer but was shipped on loan to Belgium to gain experience. Source:Completesport
