Eligibility:
-International applications will be considered for this position.
- The post-holder will possess a suitable disciplinary background including social science and a PhD. There will be a requirement to travel to India, China and elsewhere to take part in workshops and to conduct primary research through interviews and observation of scientific and policy-related conferences, mainly in major cities and research centres. Familiarity with academic social science debates in biomedicine, science and technology studies, and innovation studies will be advantageous, as would experience and knowledge in one or more of the four case study areas noted above. Ability to make a significant contribution to high-level journal publication is essential. Language skills in mainstream languages of India or China are not required but would be helpful.

Scholarship Description: A self-motivated and committed researcher is required to join the Global Biopolitics Research Group in the Department of Political Economy. The GBRG is an established research team with a major track record in social science research in the politics and sociology of biomedical science and technology. Under its 'Rising Powers' programme the ESRC has funded a 30 month project entitled 'State strategies of governance in global biomedical innovation: the impact of China and India'. The aim of this research is to examine the nature and impact of China and India's strategies on the governance of biomedical innovation at national, regional and global levels and the implications for UK policy. The research draws together concepts from disciplines of political science, innovation studies, and sociology of biomedicine and healthcare, to provide a new evidence base of these emerging developments.
