Title: No quorum for AU conference
Post by: iolsa on Oct 25, 2012, 10:30 PM
Addis Ababa -  A joint African ministerial conference on agriculture and trade has been postponed because it lacked a quorum, the African Union Commission said on Thursday.

The conference had been scheduled for next week in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

"Consequent upon the low response/confirmation of attendance by member states, it was difficult for the commission to attain the mandatory quorum for convening a ministerial conference," the commission said in a statement.

"The current scenario of a potential failure to attain the quorum has made the postponement... imperative."

A date would be communicated soon.

However, two special events would go ahead on October 31, despite the conference postponement.

These were the Africa Day for Food and Nutrition Security Commemoration, and the launch of the Partnership for Aflatoxin Control in Africa. - Sapa
