Following the rumour doing the rounds in Plateau State of a planned attack during the Sallah celebration, the Special Task Force (STF)in charge of security in the state has dispelledthe rumour and advised all residents to go about their duties and enjoy the holiday.
STF Media Officer, Captain Salisu Mustapha, in a statement made available to Nigerian Tribune in Jos, said that the STF had put in place measures to ensure a hitch-free celebration.
He noted that one of the measures was the restriction of movement around all prayer grounds, while one of the vehicular lanes at Bauchi road motor park prayer ground in JosNorth Local Government Area would be closed during Sallah prayers.
The media officer further said that members of the Ja'amatul Nasril Islam and JIBWIS security committees would search vehicles and worshippers during prayers.
While reiterating the ban on the use of some prayer grounds like the one on Rukuba Road in Jos North Local Government Area and others in Barakin Ladi, Mustapha said there was need to prevent the use of all contentious prayer grounds.
He also reminded residents that the ban on motorcycles was still in force and enjoined them to cooperate with security agencies in the enforcement of law and order.
STF spokesman reassured residents of its commitment to peaceful co-existence and cautioned any individual or group intent on fomenting trouble to beware as the STF would descend on trouble makers. Tribune.com.ng
