The Kaduna State Government yesterday said it would establish "a strike force" in various volatile areas, as part of measures to restore peace in the state.

Governor  Patrick Yakowa said this while briefing newsmen after commiserating with victims of Sunday's bomb attack who were receiving treatment in various hospitals in Kaduna.

A lone suicide bomber had attacked the St. Rita's Catholic Church, which led to the death of eight persons and injured more than 145 others. The governor said the establishment of the special security unit would assist in restoring peace not only in the affected areas but the whole state.

He urged residents to join hands with government to address the insecurity challenges to ensure peace, unity and development of the state. Yakowa noted that the effect of the blast would have been more devastating, as over 1,000 worshipers were in the Church, when it exploded.

He appealed to residents to assist security agencies and leaders with information that would assist in resolving the prevailing security challenges in the country. The governor had visited the victims currently on admission in four hospitals of the city and the District Head of Malali,  Alhaji Shehu Ja'e in his palace.

Jae had suggested the establishment of the strike force to curtail a recurrence of the incident.

He commended the efforts of religious leaders and youths for their quick intervention that forestall the spread of the crisis. Also, Catholic Archbishop of Kaduna, Most Rev. Mattew Ndagoso decried the persistent violence in the country.

He advised Christians and Muslims in the state to be united, and not be swayed by those perpetrating violence, adding that there were individuals and groups bent on plunging Nigeria into confusion.

The bishop commended the state government, the Nigerian Medical Association, Red Cross, Red Crescent and philanthropist for their quick response. Senior government officials, religious leaders, security agents, House of Assembly members accompanied the governor on the visit. (NAN)
