Delta State - DTSG To Build Houses For Public Servants

Delta State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Chief Kenneth Okpara, says the state government will soon embark on housing schemes for public servants on owner-occupier basis.

According to the commissioner, the project will address the housing challenge being faced by civil servants in the state. Okpara told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Asaba that government had concluded plans to introduce a social housing policy, saying that the policy thrust of the current administration was to provide qualitative and affordable houses to low, medium and high income earners.

Okpara said that the policy would be end-user driven and to be facilitated by development agents through public private partnership agreement. He said with the partnership arrangement, modern housing estates would be delivered in the state, adding that when the policy was fully implemented, it would help to consolidate and sustain the tempo of housing reforms in the state.

The commissioner further explained that government had concluded plans to construct estates in the three senatorial districts in the state." These estates, when completed, would go a long way in addressing the challenge of housing faced by civil servants".

"The state is proposing N1billion for this projects and this amount has been captured in the 2013 budget of the state," he said, adding that the state government had also concluded plans to construct rural housing schemes in three local government areas.

Okpara said the scheme would be located at Ozoro  in Isoko North, Ibusa in Oshimili North and Abigborodo in Warri North local government areas.
