Delta State - Delta Flags Off Commercial Cassava Farming

Determined to ensure food security and employment generation, the Delta State Government, has flagged-off its commercial cassava cultivation programme at Ewulu, Aniocha South Local Government Area.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Barrister Misan Ukubeyinje, who flagged-off the initiative, declared that it was aimed at enhancing food security, generate employment and guarantee higher living standards for farmers and the generality of Deltans.  

Ukubeyinje told stakeholders and farmers who had gathered in large numbers, to identify with the initiative that the state government is working in collaboration with the Federal Government's Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA) to actualize the Cassava Value Chain programme.  

He also said government has plans to establish six cassava mills across the state for the processing and packaging of cassava and allied products.   Chairman of the Nigeria Cassava Growers Association, Delta State Chapter, Mr. Festus Kachikwu said to enable cassava farmers achieve success in the venture, the association will seek technical services and inputs.
