Yobo Leads Eagles In Europa Flight

Super Eagles skipper Joseph Yobo played the entire duration of Fenerbahce's 1-1 draw at home to Viktoria Plzen as the Turks advanced to the quarter-final stage of the on-going Europa League competition at the Sukru Saracoglu on Thursday night.

The former Everton defender who was excluded from the Eagles squad to face Kenya in next weekend's 2014 World Cup qualifier has been in superb form since his cameo appearance for Nigeria at the last AFCON in South Africa.He has so far played six Europa league games for his Turkish side who have now qualified 2-1 on aggregate.

In Italy,Nigerian midfielder, Onazi Ogenyi played all 90 minutes against VfB Stuttgart in last night's 3-1 home win. The Rome based outfit advanced 5-1 on aggregate. It was his seventh appearance in the competition. It would be recalled that the former youth international scored a wonder goal in the first leg in Germany last week.

At the Stamford Bridge stadium in London,England, Super Eagles midfielder John Mikel Obi helped Chelsea overturn a one goal deficit to qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition at the expense of Steaua Bucuresti with a 3-2 aggregate win. Mikel who was making his third appearance in the competition was yellow carded in the 70th minute of the nervy win. His compatriot, Victor Moses replaced Eden Hazard in the closing stages of the encounter.

Also in England,Shola Ameobi was an unused substitute in Newcastle's lone goal win at home to Anzhi Makhachkala at St James Park stadium. The Magpies also advance to the last eight of the competition.

Joseph Yobo is still a good player so I believe but I feel age is no longer on his side. He will definately need to up his game to stay relevant
