Fatai Amoo tasks Flying Eagles

Former Super Eagles' assistant coach, Fatai Amoo has charged the Flying Eagles to take their chances against Gabon in Wednesday's Group B Matchday 2 crucial tie at the ongoing African Youth Championship (AYC) in Algeria.

The AYC title holders fell 0-1 to the Junior Eagles of Mali in the group's opening game in Oran, Algeria on Sunday.

Amoo said now the Nigerians have paid the price of complacency and that they must rise up against Central African foes, Gabon in order to restore their bruised dignity.

"We can't afford a draw not to talk of a defeat against Gabon. That will be suicidal.
.
"We may have forgotten we're the team to beat as reigning champions by failing to take up the challenge and establish ourselves in the first game against Mali.
.
"Now we've paid the price, we can't afford not to beat Gabon silly in tomorrow's (Wednesday's) game.

"Of course, there won't be any hiding place for the team, they must come out and take every chance at goal.

"History will be unkind to the team should they exit as champions at this stage without picking the World Cup qualification ticket.

"Coach Obuh is experienced in the AYC same goes with majority of the team, they should bring the experience into the game and ensure they pick a win in the encounter.
.
"They were simply wasteful against Mali. I believe coach Obuh would have plugged the loopholes or any other deficiencies noted in the first game to ensure his charges click in all fronts," said the former 3SC coach.

The Flying Eagles need an outright victory to qualify for the next round of the biennial football fiesta.

Their last group match will be against debutants, DR Congo this weekend.

I'd love to watch their game today to see if they've improved.  The last game against Mali wasn't it at all, they did nt impress me
