Abia Police Command arrests a 32 year old man trying to sell his 6 year old daughter………

The Abia State Police command has arrested a 32 year old, male suspect, Obinna Obu from Umudim Imeziowa in Ezeagu Council area of Enugu State for allegedly trying to sell his 6 year old only daughter, Adaobi Obu.

The arrest was made at Tonimas by Umuode Osisioma Council area of the State while they were negotiating for the sale of the little girl to be sold at the sum of N500, 000 to one Eze Ochiegbu, 25 years old, male from Isiala Ngwa South area of the State.

The father of the 6 year old girl, Obinna Obu said that the man Ochiegbu who was negotiating the sell of his daughter may have charmed him and he was haggling the price between N300, 000 and N500,000 when they had earlier agreed for half a million naira, adding that his wife is not aware of the deal.

Speaking with newsmen in Umuahia, the State Commissioner of Police [CP], Usman Tilli Abubakar said that his men received information about the intending transactions and swooped on them, adding that the little girl had been rescued.

Abubakar said that another arrests of suspected child traffickers was made at an eatery, Becoz Eatery in Osisioma Council area where four people, three women and a man were trying to induce a pregnant woman with the intention to sell her unborn child.

The CP said that the suspects were caught when they were in the process of performing the dastardly act on the pregnant woman, Mrs Ogechi Eberendu who resides at Owerri, Imo state whose pregnancy was close to nine months.

He said that the five suspects were from Rivers, Imo and Anambra states, while the pregnant woman who was lured into the act by her friend, Nkeiruka Ogbodo was rescued and four others arrested and they are, Uchechi Duru, Ngozi Obasi, Tochukwu Uwakwe and Ugochukwu Okafor.

The pregnant girl, Eberendu said that her friend Nkeiruka told her that they were going to a place where she will be made to go abroad and work for a family, adding that her husband whom she has two other kids for is not aware of her where about.

Abubakar said that another set of armed robbery and kidnap suspects were arrested after two fake armed soldiers had stopped them while they were trying to take a little boy, Husseni Musa to Sokoto State to be sold, whom they kidnapped with the vehicle.

The Abia CP said his team learnt that one Dambala Yahaya from Birni Kudu in Kano State, a driver of Toyota land cruiser with registration number, Rivers State AJ 953 AHD and others from Niger republic were travelling to Sokoto State when they were stopped by the fake soldiers and the child kidnapped.

He said, "Along the line they were stopped by two fake armed men in military camouflage and after searching them, made away with the vehicle, their luggage and the little Musa, after intensive search, the boy was rescued and the vehicle and everything inside were recovered".

Abubakar said that his men went after the suspects and arrested one Emmanuel Aroh from Awgu in Enugu State, but residing in Aba, "Who was seen in an army camouflage uniform and he is suspected to be a member of the gang that robbed and kidnapped the little Musa".

The last person paraded was a pregnant woman, Ngozi Aroh from Abiriba in Abia State who was caught selling substance believed to be cannabis otherwise called Indian hemp and also alleged to be harbouring suspected criminals.

Speaking with The Nation, Miss Aroh said that he had been in the business of selling Indian hemp for three years and that she receives her supplies from her supplier who lives in Benin city, Edo state, stressing that she went into the business because of hardship.
