Job Title: Sub-Editor  

Location: Lagos, Nigeria

Organisation: Leadership Newspapers Group

Responsibilities:

•      Writing appropriate headlines.

•      Assist the chief editor in managing the flow of stories.

•      Be prepared to write stories.

•      Editing copy, written by reporters or features writers, to remove spelling mistakes and grammatical errors.

•      Re-writing material so that it flows or reads better and adheres to the house style.

•      Checking facts and stories to ensure they are accurate, adhere to copyright laws, are not hbellous or go against the publication's policy.

•      Cropping photos and deciding where to use them for best effect and writing picture captions.

•      Proofreading complete pages produced by other sub-editors using the main basic proofing symbols.

•      Ensuring that the right stories appear in the correct order in a page.

•      Keeping up to date with sector issues, e.g. by reading related publications.

Requirements:

•      A good degree in Social Science, Arts, and Humanities

•      Applicants must have a good knowledge of the media industry, especially the print media

•      A minimum of 5 years post-graduation and relevant experience in the media industry
