The Minister of Works, Arc. Mike Onolememen has commissioned the construction and rehabilitation of three Federal Roads of about 131.5KM length in Enugu State at the cost of N26.5billion.

                        The roads include a brand new 50KM road from Ogrute in Enugu State through Umuida and Unadu to Odoru in Kogi State; rehabilitated 50KM road from Umuna through Ndiagu and Ebenebe to Ezeagu and also rehabilitated 31.5KM road stretching from Agubuogu through Ebenebe to Iwolo, all in Enugu State.

These roads when completed, the Minister said, will link up all the towns and villages along the corridor, increase commercial activities and transportation of agricultural produce between Enugu and Kogi States and beyond.  The roads will also provide alternative routes from the South East and South-South zones to the Northern parts of the country.

The contracts were awarded to Messrs P.W Nigeria Limited, Messrs CGC Nigeria Limited and Messrs Coduc Nigeria Limited respectively.

Onolememen was quick to add that the Ogrute – Umuida-Odoru Road was in response to the yearnings of the people of Enugu State and the communities on this corridor for democratic dividend and the unceasing demand of the Chairman  of Senate Committee on Works, Senator Ayogu Eze who hails from Igbo Eze community while those of Umuna-Ebenebe to Ezeagu and Agubuogu-Ebenebe to Iwolo were credited to the efforts of the Chairman of House of Representatives' Committee on Works, Hon. Ogbuefi Ozomgbachi who hails from Ezeagu Community.   Both Senator Aogu Eze and his counterpart in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ogbuefi Ozomgbachi were on ground to thank the Federal Government for using these projects to show its commitment at providing infrastructure to the good people along these corridors.

The Enugu State Governor,  Mr. Sullivan Chime through his Commissioner for Works, Engineer Godwin Madueke expressed his profound gratitude to President Goodluck Jonathan stressing that this demonstrated his commitment to his economic transformation and empowerment of the good people of Enugu State.  He promised to protect and jealously guard the projects as the people's own so as to ensure that they are preserved and maintained for posterity.

The roads were to be delivered in 24 months, 30 months and 18 months respectively.

In a similar development in Imo State, the Minister commissioned the construction of 14KM Mbaise-Ngwa road with a bridge at Imo/Abia States.   The project is awarded to Messrs Mangrovetech Engineering Nig. Limited in the sum of N2.94billion.

The project which was to be delivered in 12 months is a constituency project of Senator Chris Anyanwu of the Owerri North Senatorial Zone.

Our roads are very bad and that should be the utmost priority for those in power but it isn't. Very bad I must say.
