Nigeria has huge investment potentials in renewable power conservation says Minister of Power.

                        The Minister of Power, Professor Chinedu Nebo has informed visiting Business Group from Britain led by the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Roger Grifford that the Nigeria's energy sector has huge investment opportunities in the areas of non-fossil fuel power generation which includes, solar, wind, bio-mass and firing of abundant coal to generate electricity as alternative source of power.

While speaking in his Abuja Office, when presenting the Ministry's report on where we are coming from, where we are and where we intend to be, Professor Nebo said that he is committed to formulating a workable policy on renewable energy and energy conservation, saying that hitherto Nigeria had no policy for these power sources.

"We need a robust energy mix, for security purposes as a nation it is not expedient to have a source or two; we need a good mix of power, we now have wind turbines, solar power too are being commissioned, but we are still far considering our potentials".   "Only recently, a South Korean firm has agreed to produce 1,000 solar panels for us every year for the next 10 years.   Some parts of Nigeria are known to be good for wind; this will be good for our off-grid rural folks, who we intend to focus under the rural electrification scheme".

"We are ready to receive genuine investors from London, to key into our power sector investment, we are not insular, those who see the potentials and jump at it will never regret".

While he was responding to the Minister's call, Lord Mayor, Roger Grifford accompanied by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Andrew Pocock said this group was in the Ministry to explore business opportunities offered by the on-going power sector privatization programme.

He said, his group is made up of people with diverse business interests which also include Nigerians in Diaspora.  He described the divestment programme as one of the most ambitious privatization programme to be undertaken anywhere on the African continent, just as he assured the Minister, of British expertise in the driving the process.
