Cross River State - CR House Member Stresses Importance of Inter-Tribal Marriages

      A member of Cross River State House of Assembly representing Biase Federal Constituency, Hon. Ngim Okpo has stressed the importance of inter-tribal marriages as a way of cross- fertilizing ideas and promoting peace and harmony in the society.

Hon Okpo made the emphasis on Thursday in Calabar during the traditional marriage ceremony of Mr Honesty Offu Aya and former Miss Susan Kambel. Mr. Aya is a son of Chief and Mrs. Offu Aya Ebirigor of Etono Central in Biase Local Government Area while Susan is a daughter of Deacon and Deaconess Joshua Kambel of Ogoniland in Rivers State.

Delivering an address at the occasion as Chairman of the event, the House member said marriages between two individuals with different cultural, language and social backgrounds offer the couple the opportunity to understand themselves and live together as one.

This, in turn, according to him, reflects on the society through the peace, mutual co-existence and love they enjoy, including their relatives.

He charged the couple to do all that is possible to understand themselves and love one another, which according to him are the only way they can both get along and raise their children in the fear of God.

On his part, Chief Ebirigor, who is also a Branch Manager of Union Bank Plc in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State expressed appreciation for opportunity of his family to unite with his in-laws and prayed God to continually bless the union.

Handing over their daughter to the Ebirigor family, Deacon and Deaconess Kambel expressed confidence that their daughter had decided wisely as she has always been respectful and God-fearing. They also prayed God to guide and protect the union at all times.

Highpoints of the event were traditional dances, exchange of gifts, group photographs and prayers for the two families.
