2013 budget: Reps approve N259bn for FCT

The House of Representatives yesterday passed the sum of N259 billion as statutory revenue for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in 2013. Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal who presided over the sitting of the House after desolving it to Committee of Supply, undertook its clause by clause deliberation with members.

The passage came after what the House described as satisfactory explanations of all items in the initial proposed budget by FCDA officials.

Deputy Chairman House Committee on FCT Raphael Nnana Igbokwue led debate on the Bill. He briefed his colleagues on work done so far by his committee since the budget scaled Second Reading in late April.

A breakdown of the budget indicates a sum of N160,467,449,402 representing 60 per cent as capital budget.

The FCDA officials led by its Permanent Secretary, John Obinna Chukwu, had appeared before the House Committee on FCT, May 3, 2013 for the budget defence.

Igbokwue also informed the House that 18.5 per cent and 21.5 per cent of the budget would be for personnel and overhead costs respectively.

These included N522 million for FCT Urban Affairs, N4.3 billion for Public Buildings and Engineering Services gulping N52.9 billion.
