SMEDAN: Groups hail Jonathan over appointment of DG

The Young Entrepreneurs Forum (AYEF) has hailed the President Goodluck Jonathan over the appointment of Hon Bature Umar Masari the new Director-General (DG) of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).

According to the AYEF Coordinator, Abdulrashid Muhammad, the Presidency made the right choice, describing SMEDAM as strategic parastatal which is critical to the actualization of government's transformation agenda as well as the economic advancement of the nation

The group, in a statement in Abuja yesterday, urged Masari to collaborate with state governments and the private sector so as to make positive impact on the MSME sector.

According to the statement, "we strongly believe that Masari will work and get results and we know that President Jonathan must have a genuine reason for appointing him as the SMEDAN Director General."

"Masari's pedigree is not in doubt as he has proven himself capable and versed in the MSME sector when he held sway as the Special Adviser to the Katsina state Governor on Poverty Alleviation, besides he is a professional journalist who is well acquainted with developments in the MSME sub sector.

"We urge the Director General of SMEDAN to carry all stakeholders in the sector along particularly the international donor agencies and parastatals that are critical to the sector.

Also, the Joint Northern Youth Association (JNYA) in a statement equally Masari's as appointment as highly commendable, insisting that it was a case of a square peg in a square hole.

The statement signed by the President and Secretary of the association, Ahmed Umar, and Nasiru Sambo,respectively, recalled the successful poverty alleviation measures Masari conceived and implemented when he was Chairman of Kafur local government in Katsina state.
