Federal Government to shut down unauthorized museums.

                        The Director General of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments, Mallam Yusuf Abdallah Usman has warned some individuals, organizations/institutions and State Governments who have been setting up private Museums without the necessary and statutory supervision, regulation and approval by the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM).

Yusuf Abdallah made this call in Ilorin during the celebration of this year's International Museum Day (IMD) with the theme: Museums (Memory + Creativity) = Social Change.  In his words, "I call on all concerned to regularize these anomalies by immediately getting in touch with us or have such illegal museums shutdown."

Meanwhile, the Director General, Mallam Yusuf Abdallah said that the Commission has been able to repatriate over 600 stolen Nigerian cultural objects from France, Canada, South Africa, United State of America and Switzerland.

He also revealed that the Commission has improved bilateral relations between Nigeria Museums and other institutions within and from other parts of the world through collaborations.

While speaking at the event, the Curator of National Museums, Ilorin, Mrs. Adetayo Adeboye appealed for the cooperation and understanding of the different groups within the local communities for support and collaborations. "Government alone may not be able to provide all the funds we will need for the various programmes which we see as crucial in our drive for social change and development", She agitated.

Among those who graced the occasion were the zonal Coordinator of National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), the Head of Centre, Federal Information Centre, Ilorin, Mrs. Sade Boriowo and the General Manager of Royal Shekina Suit, Ilorin, Mr. Eyitayo Ayoola.
