‘Invest more in MDGs projects’

Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, Bolaji Muse-Ariyoh, has urged the Federal Government to invest more in Millennium Development Goals' projects.

He said  such investment would address the falling standard of education and the worsening unemployment situation in the country.

Muse-Ariyoh made the call during the visit of the state officials from the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, according to a statement on Thursday.

He said, "Government alone cannot provide employment for millions of Nigerians roaming the streets, especially the youths.

"The UNDP's vocational and skills acquisition centre in this council secretariat has in no small measure provided answers to the current problem of unemployment."

He added that his council had provided holistic support to the centre in terms of equipment purchase such as computer sets, hairdryers, haircut kits and sewing machines to graduating students to enable them to start a small-scale business.

The chairman said because of the sensitivity and volatile nature of Oshodi, skills acquisition centre was of utmost importance to curb idleness.

He urged governments at all level not to neglect skills acquisition centres, stressing that it was a step in the right direction.
