Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, Sam Sidney has revealed that he never wanted to represent African champions, Nigeria at international level.
.
The midfielder was last week called up to the Germany squad by Joachim Loew for the internationals against the United States and Ecuador in June, dousing lingering hopes amongst the Super Eagles faithful that the 25-year-old could potentially star for the three-time African champions.
.
Sam, who could could still represent Nigeria at senior international level, has now effectively sounded death knell on a future as a Super Eagle.
.
"I never really thought about Nigeria, and I do not know who invented that.
.
"I always wanted to play for Germany and I know I was on the coaches' list. A pity, I was often injured.
.
"But now I am here and want to prove my strengths.
.
"2014 is still far away but for me it is only Germany that counts. We don't have to speak about Nigeria," he told German sports agency, SID.
.
Sam has been capped 19 times at junior level for Germany netting three goals.
