Emergency rule hasn’t stopped insurgency – Ndume

The chairman of the senate committee on Millenium Development Goal (MDG), Ali Ndume, has said that despite military operation in Borno state, the insurgents are still terrorising the state.

Speaking with newsmen yesterday, Ndume, PDP Borno, disclosed that as at last communication with his father in the state, he was told that the Primary school which he attended has been razed down by Boko Haram insurgents.

He also said that a reverend friend of his was killed few days ago, pointing out that while the military are making efforts to stop the crisis, the insurgents are still there.

While explaining that Borno is very wide for the soldiers to secure, Ndume said that both the military operate from different points in the state.

He therefore urged the government to approach Boko Haram issue with sincerity, arguing that no amount of sacrifice was too great in the efforts to stop the insurgency in the north.

"Whatever that needs to be done should be done in utmost sincerity. No price is too much to stop the insurgency", according to him.

Speaking on the job racketeering being investigated by the Senate, Ndume blamed the federal government for not providing enough jobs.

He said that if the jobs were enough for Nigerians, there would not be need for racketeering of jobs, recalling that during his graduation days, jobs were waiting for him, unlike what obtains today.

Meanwhile, Ndume dismissed the Democracy Day being celebrated in the country, saying that there was nothing spectacular thing to celebrate after 14 years of democracy in Nigeria.

"The oversight is seen by the executive as an interference by the lawmakers. They don't give you the cooperation you deserve", he added.
