Jang Says Boko Haram Amnesty Committee Has Brightened Prospect Of Peace In Plateau

The Plateau State Governor, Jonah JangThe Plateau state governor, Jonah Jang has said the setting up of the Presidential Committee to Dialogue for Peaceful Resolution of Conflicts in the North has rekindled the hope of people in his state on the federal government's determination at addressing the issue of insecurity bedevilling the region. [caption id="attachment_65775" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="The Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang"][/caption] The governor stated this when he received members of the committee, who paid him a courtesy call at government house, Ray field, Jos, Wednesday. Mr Jang said until the setting up of the presidential committee, people of the state had lost hope of any federal government's intervention. He said reoccurrence of violence in the region was indicative of failure of leadership to address the problem which according to him was the handiwork of people he described as mischief makers. Governor Jang therefore, opined that until the sponsors of the crises were brought to book peace will continue to elude the north or the country in general. He however revealed that peace had returned on the Plateau following the decision of the people to unite irrespective of their backgrounds and religious differences. Speaking earlier, the chairman of the committee and Minister of special duties and inter-governmental affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki assured that government will implement their recommendations. He said the committee was out to interface with stake holders in the resolution of the crisis particularly security agencies and victims, hoping to from the experience of the state in tackling conflict that bedevil it. Mr Turaki commended the efforts of people of the state at reconciling; a development he said was responsible for the return of peace and harmony in the state. He said members of the committee would be guided by their conscience and the fear God in the discharge of their assignment. He added that as part of the healing process the committee has the powers to recommend amnesty for deserving members of the insurgency.
