Former Super Eagles midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju, has expressed happiness that the national team lived up to expectations by defeating Harambee Stars of Kenya in yesterday's crucial 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Kasarani, Kenya. The 1994 World Cup star stated that the victory did not however come to him as a surprise.
.
"First, I am highly elated over the win. It shows the boys really lived up to expectations as African champions and they have indeed proved that beyond all doubts now." "Again, I'm not surprised at all that the Eagles could shock the Kenyans at their backyard. Of course, we've got some quality players and resources to do the job as well as sound technical crew led by Stephen Keshi."
.
"Come to think of it, Kenya has never defeated Nigeria in any major competition as far as football is concerned and I don't think they are capable of doing that now. If it were to be athletics, especially long distance races, I could have said yes, the Kenyans have a chance."
.
"I must say kudos to the team, kudos to the officials and congratulations to all Nigerians."
.
The former Shooting Stars of Ibadan player and later General Manager further stated that yesterday's victory has placed the Super Eagles in a pole position to snatch the World Cup ticket, adding that what remains is for the team to go to Namibia next week to finish the job.
.
"This is Keshi's first competitive win away from home and it came at the right time. The team will travel to Namibia with a winning mentality which is good and that will be a major boost for them," he concluded.
.
CSKA Moscow forward Ahmed Musa's 81st minute strike secured all three points for the Nigerians and put them in vantage position in the group after Malawi drew goalless at home with Namibia.

Yes I totally agree with that. If they did not win, things would have been very difficult for the country's 2014 World Cup campaign.
