Volkswagen and Shanghai Auto Are Developing China-Specific Electric Cars for 2018

Volkswagen and partner Shanghai Auto are jointly developing compact electric cars for the Chinese market, including a battery-powered Golf. The partners plan to build and sell electric versions of the Golf hatchback and Lavida sedan. VW and SAIC also are developing an exclusive China-specific electric car for 2018.
