Job Title: Gender and Social Inclusion Advisor (National)

Locations: Nigeria

Mobilizing for the Development (M4D) is a new, DFID-supported programme meant to support local governance for improved service delivery and accountability in the areas of health, education, water and sanitation and livelihoods. It will also leverage Nigeria's MDG Conditional Grant Scheme (CGS) to scale up technical and capacity support for local government authorities. (LGAs)  M4D will work with both policy makers and service providers at state and LGA level as well as local-level civil society and community-based organizations (CSOs and CBOs) and state holders. M4D is especially interested in working to support innovative and increased both demand and supply-side governance reform, M4D will work initially in three states -Kano, Kaduna and Jigawa States where it will work in three local governments each. All the above posts are based out of M4D's head office in Kano.

Reporting to the National Team Leader, this role is responsible for providing the strategic oversight and direction for the programme's engagement on issues of Gender and Social Inclusion.

•   The successful candidate will provide strategic advice on these issues, formulating and shaping M4D's approach, and supporting the state teams in delivering the programme of work of M4D across three states and at LGA level – deepening our approach to working with people with disabilities and adolescent girls to Improve their engagement with service providers and policy makers and their access to base services.

•   This will include identifying and supporting specialists, providing support to crosscutting roles on mainstreaming inclusion, supporting effective monitoring and evaluation, commissioning research and engaging effectively across DFID and other donor programmes building synergy and sharing lessons.

•   The successful candidate will have a sound conceptual grasp of issues of Gender and Social inclusion and provide evidence of strong, contextual relevant thought leadership capability.

•   With a minimum of a first degree in a relevant social discipline, s/he will have solid experience on working on issues of social exclusion in Northern Nigeria.

•   S/he will also be a seasoned development practitioner with a track record of innovating for social change, have a good grasp of research, and strong monitoring and evaluation skills.

•   A sound communicator, the ideal post holder will be able to work with and support colleagues, partners and stakeholders at different levels (community upwards) and be a strong and capable representative of M4D across a range of arenas of engagement.

•   Candidates must be able to communicate fluently in both English and Hausa.
