Illegal loggers in Ogun State have been told that their days of illicit operations are numbered as the Ministry of Forestry in the State will continue to take steps necessary to bring them to book.

Commissioner for Forestry, Engineer Ayo Olubori sounded this warning when he led a task force which uncovered another illegal flitch site located within the Araromi-Adekanbi Camp in Area J1, Ijebu-Igbo forest reserve in the State. Olubori disclosed that following a tip off from some concerned citizens, the task force stormed the area in the midnight last Saturday where it recovered 1,179 flitches known in local parlance as “Alamole’’ already sawn into different sizes of planks and six trucks loaded with timber logs.

The Commissioner said though no arrest was made as the perpetrators were not on sight, but assured that his team would continue to trail them and others involved in the unwholesome practice with a view to bringing them to justice.

He lamented that their action was inimical to the socio-economic development of the State as the fund that should have been realised and paid into government coffers were being lost to some unscrupulous elements who do not mean well for the State, saying that this act is unacceptable as it is also unfriendly to the environment

It will be recalled that the Ministry had in the last six months made arrests of illegal fellers and seized log of woods as well as over 15000 flitches worth over seven million naira.
